Cllr Leah Smyth has been joined by Pamela Minford, Centre Manager at Castle Mall, Antrim to launch a Christmas Pyjama Appeal in for local charity Women’s Aid ABCLN.
Women’s Aid ABCLN provides confidential support, information and emergency accommodation for women and children who are affected by domestic abuse. All pyjamas that are donated to the appeal will support families in refuge and the local community here in Antrim this Christmas.
“We are appealing for warm pyjamas for boys and girls of all ages” says Cllr Leah Smyth. “For me, I loved getting a new pair of pyjamas on Christmas Eve and getting into bed ready for Santa. I want to do all that we can to make Christmas a little bit more special for children this year.”
“Already there has been a tremendous response, with drop-off points for pyjamas in Steve Aiken MLA and Trevor Clarke MLA constituency offices and local businesses across Antrim including Antrim Enterprise, Asda Antrim, Castle Mall, Centra Islandbawn, Miss Prims and Vivo Newpark to name but a few.”
Women’s Aid ABCLN Communication and Engagement Manager, Arlene Creighton said “Last year we supported 1,583 women and 1,767 children in our local community. With your support, this will enable us to provide warm pyjamas for children in our refuge and local community on Christmas Eve and for families who need our support throughout the year.”
“Our thanks go to Cllr Leah Smyth and all the local businesses that are supporting Women’s Aid ABCLN. Together you will help us ‘make it magical’ for children affected by domestic abuse this Christmas.”
