Women’s Aid ABCLN invites you to ‘Walk A Mile In Her Shoes’ to help raise vital funds and awareness about domestic abuse.
“To get the New Year off to a strong start please join us! Make it your resolution to put your walking boots or trainers on, get out there and help raise funds by asking friends and family to sponsor you to ‘Walk A Mile’ (or more) for Women’s Aid ABCLN.” says Fundraiser, Arlene Creighton.
Through the ‘White Ribbon 30 Years’ campaign Women’s Aid ABCLN is empowering business leaders, employers and workforces, community hubs, schools and churches to take a stand against domestic abuse,
“’Walk A Mile is a very powerful way that you can show your support. Simply walk a mile or more and ask friends and family to sponsor you.”
“Our ‘Walk A Mile In Her Shoes’ appeal is about empathy, being able to put yourself in the shoes of someone who has experienced domestic abuse and Arlene says “A mile is a very short distance in terms of the journey that women have to endure because it goes on for year and years. One in four women will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime and that abuse can take many forms.”
“People automatically assume domestic abuse is physical abuse but it much more than that. It is about the coercive control and behaviours, it is about emotional abuse and the number of women who access our service who say at least if I had a bruise, black eye or broken bone, I could say look what he did to me.”
Arlene says “It is so important that we recognise that domestic abuse doesn’t stop at a certain age. With over 8,000 domestic abuse incidents reported to the PSNI during lockdown, we need your support now more than ever to help raise awareness.”
“Join us for ‘Walk A Mile’ and help get the message out there for anyone affected by domestic abuse that you are not alone, Women’s Aid ABCLN is here for you and help is available.”
