Safe Place Partnership

Women’s Aid ABCLN established Onus as a social enterprise in 2007 to offer specialist training and consultancy services on domestic abuse. Women’s Aid ABCLN are now a Safe Place Partner with Onus, working alongside PSNI, NHSCT, Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council and Mid East Antrim Borough Council to deliver the Safe Community project across Antrim, Ballymena, Carrickfergus, Larne and Newtownabbey.

Safe Community

This project aims to provide initial training and resources to community groups, businesses, churches and schools, building capacity within the community to recognise domestic and sexual abuse and identify appropriate support services.

We believe empowering communities to recognise and respond to domestic abuse through prevention and early intervention strategies is a crucial, longer-term approach in moving toward a society with zero tolerance to domestic abuse.

Safe Place

Safe Place is the first step and is a simple way for organisations to provide information and signposting for anyone affected by domestic abuse.

As a Safe Place Partner with Onus, Women’s Aid ABCLN delivers Safe Place training and encourages organisations across Antrim, Ballymena, Carrickfergus, Larne and Newtownabbey to become a Safe Place for anyone affected by domestic abuse.

Join us, become a Safe Place and help us raise awareness about domestic abuse and the range of support services available.

  • Support the pledge to never commit, condone or remain silent about domestic abuse
  • Acknowledge domestic abuse is a problem that impacts on all of us as a society, and be prepared to play your part in supporting those affected and send a clear message to perpetrators that domestic abuse is intolerable
  • Provide a Safe Place for ANYONE affected by domestic abuse to confidentially access information

To become a Safe Place organisation simply register and attend a Safe Place webinar. Following the webinar, you will have the opportunity to register your business, organisation or community group as a Safe Place and be provided with a supply of Safe Place resources.

As a Safe Place you will display the Safe Place logo. This indicates that information on services for anyone affected by domestic abuse is available on the premises. Organisations will not have to do anything beyond signposting people to the appropriate services.
